Estimation’s ToolBox wins ISH awards

Estimation Inc., a leading provider of computerized solutions for contractors, is proud to announce receiving the 1st place prize for the “New Product Showcase” at the 2006 ish North America Show in Chicago. This highly sought after honor was decided upon by a select group of industry experts, in which Estimation walked away with 1st Place in an intense competition with eight other software and business efficiency products.

ISH North America has come to the completion of their fourth event; they are the only North American trade show that consolidates the kitchen & bath, plumbing, PVF, HVAC and hydronics industries. There was a huge turn out this year bringing over 500 exhibitors from various different countries to showcase their products.

ToolBox provides contractors with a comprehensive set of tools designed to help them manage, analyze and store their bids, jobs, submittals, RFIs, change orders, etc. The old saying “time is money” stands true to date. Think of all the wasted time, hence money, you have spent searching for your various files or trying to analyze what happened. This software solution tracks the data and provides priceless analysis on why a bid was won or lost, or why a job was under or over budget so that contractors can analyze areas where they could yield a profit, or more importantly, a loss -- enabling them to make the best decisions for their organization.

ToolBox was written using the latest Microsoft tools and is designed specifically for Windows XP. The program integrates with our latest Logistics Version 6 to give the user full functionality. Logistics is the total business management solution for specialty contractors in the plumbing/mechanical, HVAC and electrical trades. For more information,

Haws Corporation celebrates centennial

On October 28th, the Haws Corporation officially celebrated its 100th Anniversary at a gala celebration held at the Siena Hotel Spa & Casino in Reno, Nevada.  The black-tie event was attended by 350 Haws customers, sales representatives, past and present employees, suppliers and other special guests. Beyond the regal setting, sumptuous cuisine, live musical entertainment and libation, guests were treated to a special “Hall of Haws” display. This unique exhibit unveiled, first time ever, the company’s product museum of vintage Haws plumbing and emergency equipment products assembled into a living timeline of Haws’ innovation throughout the years.  That display was also supported by a 1,900 slide video tribute to the generations of “Haws people” who have made quality, value and customer satisfaction synonymous with the Haws brand.

Highlighting the evening was an appearance by the company’s founder, Luther Haws, the inventor of the first commercial drinking fountain. Haws’ invention became the core product of the Haws Sanitary Drinking Faucet Company after his original invention in 1906. Luther Haws (phenomenally played actor Larry Elliott) walked the assembled guests through the history of the company, supported by museum products and appropriate visual references. “Luther” concluded by telling the group he was “damned proud” of their accomplishments and that he couldn’t wait to see what new heights they attain in the coming years!

Oatey Company acquires William H. Harvey Co.

Oatey Co., a leader in the plumbing industry since 1916, has acquired the William H. Harvey Co. of Omaha, Neb., a manufacturer and distributor of plumbing specialty products sold throughout North and South America.

The William H. Harvey Co. will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Oatey Co. The sale includes Harvey’s headquarters and manufacturing facility in Omaha. Both companies are privately held.

“This is a combination of two strong family-owned companies with complementary business models, values and motivations,” said Gary Oatey, ceo of Oatey. “With the addition of the William H. Our goal is to provide a broad line of the highest quality products to maximize overall value to our customers.”

“The Oatey Co.’s reputation for quality, integrity and trust is among the best in our industry, and we are pleased to become part of the Oatey family,” said John Harvey. “The William H. Harvey Co, sought a strong, respected partner who could secure a long-term future for our company.”

No immediate changes are planned in the way either company serves its customers. “We want to make this transaction as smooth as possible to the customers of both companies to ensure that they continue to receive the excellent service they have come to expect,” said Oatey.

Hubbard Enterprises/HOLDRITE wins award for workplace excellence

Hubbard Enterprises/HOLDRITE has been recognized as one of the “Best Places to Work” in San Diego County for 2006 and was given the prestigious “Crystal Award” in front of a crowd of over 400 at the San Diego Convention Center.

Presented by The San Diego Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a total of over 120 companies were nominated in three categories based on company size. A panel of independent judges evaluated each company and conducted extensive interviews to determine the winners.

“We are proud to receive the Crystal Award for Workplace Excellence from shrm,” said John R. Thomas, president and CEO of Hubbard Enterprises. “Our recognition validates the market successes we have derived from our Associate-driven work processes and culture.”

Hubbard Enterprises/HOLDRITE was honored for soliciting and deploying the help of its operations associates during a time of exceptionally high, and unexpected, customer demand. Earlier this year, manufacturing was faced with record high orders. Human resources worked with operations to team hire and train associates throughout the department. Processes were focused to meet customer needs. Supervisors were provided in-house training through a local college to upgrade skills. The result was significant business growth and a workforce better prepared for future challenges.

Hubbard Enterprises/HOLDRITE employs other “best practices” such as bi-monthly all-associate meetings, 360-degree, hiring teams, a thorough & semi-annual performance planning process, and an elected Associate Committee whose charter is to “Make Hubbard Enterprises the best place to work in San Diego County.” For more info, visit
